Other National Park spaces were not empty!

The author states that Yellowstone and Yosemite were largely unpopulated federal lands. That is true in that there was not a popular of Anglo people residing there. However, the land was not empty of people since the Native American peoples lived on and used the land that became Yellowstone and Yosemite. The indigenous Native Americans who were displaced from their homelands in the Yellowstone and Yosemite also experienced profound loss of their ancestral property and land.

One correction . . .

The first sentence of the last paragraph of the article should read, "Today, only one monument, in Augusta County, is awaiting completion." The Augusta County Blue Ridge Heritage Project committee is currently working to identify a location for the monument.
